First United Methodist Church, Murfreesboro, TN
What We Believe

As one United Methodist pastor has said, “We believe in God, in Jesus Christ, and in the Bible as the sufficient rule of faith and practice.” Our denomination began during the Wesleyan revival of the 1800’s. The founders did not intend to start a new denomination but rather to revive the church and to spread scriptural holiness across the land.

As United Methodists, we are part of a world Christian movement. Through the connection of churches in our community and around the globe, our mission is to make disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world.

Our church affirms the Holy Scriptures found in the Old and New Testaments. We believe that the waters of baptism symbolize the work of God that is already present in our lives. And we believe that God offers communion to all who seek to live in peace with God and one another.

As the people called Methodists, we profess a faith that is warmly experienced through personal faith and social commitment. As our founder John Wesley once said, “There is no holiness apart from social holiness.” We seek to receive God’s grace and offer it to the world.

Members of the Methodist church make a commitment to support the church with their prayers, presence, gifts, service, and witness. We invite you to join us! Find out more by clicking here.
